The 2026 International Day of Cooperatives theme, “Cooperatives for a Peaceful World”, recognises the important role cooperatives play in building stronger, more connected, and more inclusive communities. Cooperatives create opportunities for people to work together, have a voice in decisions that affect them, and support one another through shared responsibility.
At Common Equity Housing SA, we see these values in action every day. Housing cooperatives are about much more than providing a roof over someone’s head. They create places where people belong, contribute, and build meaningful connections with their neighbours. As highlighted in our International Co-ops Day celebrations, home is more than a house – it is belonging, security, community, and opportunity.
Cooperative housing offers a unique alternative that empowers residents to participate in decisions, shape their communities, and support one another. Through cooperation, members help create safe, stable, and affordable homes while fostering stronger and more resilient communities.
